Syntax as a Critical Part of the Czech Language Education at Upper Primary School

The thesis deals with critical points in teaching syntax at the lower secondary level of elementary school. The aim of the thesis is to identify the causes of the teacher's attitude towards syntax as a critical point in the teaching of Czech language at the lower secondary level of elementary school and to determine whether the goal of teaching syntax is fulfilled, which we consider to be the development of students' abilities and skills aimed at improving their language practice. Teacher attitudes are investigated using a questionnaire survey. Based on the findings from this survey, an analysis of entrance exams and a second questionnaire survey are also conducted, which aims to confirm and refine some of the findings from the first questionnaire survey, mainly related to the reduction of syntactic teaching content. The thesis further examines students' attitudes towards syntactic content and analyzes their work from a syntactic perspective. Czech Textbooks of Reading at the Elementary Stage for the Deaf - from Century 19 to 21

The Bachelor's thesis characterises Czech textbooks of reading at the elementary stage for deaf pupils from the end of 19th century up to the present day. The attention is paid also to the methods of teaching reading, the issue is put into context of methods of educating deaf pupils. The first chapter covers the methods of teaching reading in general and inclusion of these methods in education of deaf pupils. The second chapter is dedicated to the history of teaching the deaf with an emphasis on teaching reading, it outlines the connection between teaching reading, teaching correct articulation and teaching the Czech language in different historical periods. The third part describes textbooks of reading at the elementary stage from a formal and a content point of view as well as the methods used and teaching techniques. The last part of the thesis summarizes general characteristics of textbooks of reading at the elementary stage for the deaf as well as the connection of these books to teaching the Czech language to the deaf pupils.
